Good Vibes Only: I Got Into Crystals & #ImObsessed

I recently stumbled upon this Goop Article, The 8 Essential Crystals You Need For Better Energy and I was very intrigued. July was a hard month for me, since the month prior, I had to put down my dog, Brutus. He was 15 years old and he was my absolute best friend. Work was super stressful and I found myself mentally and physically tired. I was looking for something that would just bring in good vibes. Before you keep reading, I will say I am not going to turn out like Spencer Pratt who is obsessed with crystals. 1) It’s hella expensive 2) you control your own happiness. But…. I gotta admit, I really do like the crystals I’ve bought and I do feel like I’ve gotten better vibes at work and my personal life. So now I’m obsessed. *Insert Girl Shrugging emoji here*

A few of my crystals I’ve bought

So I made 2 trips to two different crystal stores here in NYC. The first store I went to was Lita Trading Corp (1160 Broadway). The sales guy was super nice (he was also Filipino and gave me a pretty good discount!). I got a few crystals, that were pretty small/ average sized. Half my crystals went to my desk at work and the other half are in my apartment.

First and most popular crystal I got was Rose Quartz (duh). It’s the most basic and popular crystal. I got two unpolished stones ($5 each). Rose Quartz activates the heart (fourth) chakra and promotes positive energy. It enhances all types of love: self-love, love for others, and unconditional love. This tiny but mighty baby-pink wonder raises self esteem, restores confidence, helps with emotional balance, releases stress/tension/anger, and helps curb jealousy. Rose quartz has been used in love rituals and ceremonies for centuries, and remains the stone of the hopeless romantic. AKA people buy this to find love. My coworker has rose quartz in her apartment, and borrows my stone when she’s swiping on apps during work. he ancient civilizations of Rome and Assyria were the first to use this crystal as a bead in rose quartz jewelry. Greek and Roman myths were the first to attach the symbol of love to the rose quartz meaning. According to the myth, Cupid, the Roman god of desire, or Eros, the Greek god of love, bestowed the gift of love to humans in the form of a rose quartz. Another rose quartz myth tells of the stone receiving its color from the blood Aphrodite spilt in trying to save her dying lover Adonis. Both of the lovers bled over the stone, and its lasting stain is meant to represent eternal love.  Although it’s the most popular make sure you take good care of it, and keep it out of the sun or it will lose it’s pretty shade. (Note: All crystals that lets light through it should be kept out of the sun FYI).

Next crystal I got was Selenite ($5) which is also very popular. You’ll often find selenite blocks in many yoga studios. Selenite opens the pathway to connect to the highest realms thus opening all our chakras. Selenite’s soothing properties allow one to become calm, centered and filled with divine light. Selenite cleanses and recharges itself and other stones. Selenite is named after the Greek goddess Selene, which is the goddess of the moon. You will need selenite crystals when there are a lot of things going on in your head and it’s starting to affect your sense of peace and quiet. It’s a good stone to have to help you quiet your mind and give you mental clarity.

Next is Black Tourmaline ($7).  This crystal is used for protection, a psychic shield deflecting and dispelling negative energies, entities, or destructive forces. It guards against radiation and environmental pollutants, and is highly useful in purifying and neutralizing one’s own negative thoughts and internal conflicts, and turning them into positive, usable energy. I read that the owner of Ten Over Ten shuts off her iPhone and puts it on airplane mode at night and puts a Black Tourmaline on top of the phone to absorb all the radiation from the phone. Black Tourmaline is also a powerful grounding stone, electrical in nature, providing a connection between Earth and the human spirit. Its supportive energy aligns the energy centers of the body and channels healing light throughout the system. It promotes a sense of power and self-confidence, allowing for a clearer, more objective view of the world. It is empowering to those who must live or work in challenging environments or when facing difficult circumstances. At work, hold Black Tourmaline for a few minutes when you need to wake up your mind or when you need full concentration. It provides an excellent shield against environmental pollutants, electromagnetic smog, and radiation associated with cell phones, computers, and other electronic equipment. I put mine near my cell phone when it’s charging at night and on top of my computer at work.

I also got Citrine ($7) for my apartment. Citrine is a stone that enhances mental clarity and stimulates the creative imagination even in those who are not creative. Citrine does not hold negative energy and can transmute negative energy into positive. It is also a powerful stone for attracting prosperity and maintaining it. In the Filipino culture, they say when you move into a new house/apartment to put coins on the window sill to attract wealth. In my apartment my roommate and I both have a container of change on our window sill. I put my citrine on top of that to bring in wealth.

Since I like glittery and shiny things, I obviously had to get Pyrite ($3) AKA Fool’s Gold. The pyrite crystal is a must-have piece for your office or workspace because it’s the ultimate symbol of wealth and good luck. Which is why it’s also on my desk at work. Pyrite is a unique protector, drawing energy from the Earth through the physical body and into the aura creating a defensive shield against negative energies, environmental pollutants, emotional attack and physical harm. It also supports one with a spirit of boldness and assertive action when protecting others, the planet, or in standing up for important issues of community. It stimulates the Second and Third Chakras, enhancing will power and the ability to see behind facades to what is real. Combine Pyrite with other good luck stones like Citrine, Jade, and a Clear Quartz point to amplify the energy.

I love anything pink so I also got Rhodochrosite ($8). Similar to rose quartz, it has energies that relate to love. With Rhodochrosite, the love is directed first to the self for purposes of emotional healing. It assists in recovering, relieving and frees the memories of emotional wounding. Its frequencies echo with the child within and help one to recover a sense of playfulness. It also connects the upper and lower energy fields of the body, clearing away psychic debris that has accumulated over the years. When facing painful matters of the heart, this crystal gives us the courage to trust another soul with our vulnerable hearts. It gives us the inner strength to take another chance at love, because even if you fall, the Rhodochrosite crystal will always catch you. Rhodochrosite reminds us to love ourselves. When thoughts of self-loathing take your natural happiness, hold on tight to Rhodochrosite and use its nurturing and loving vibes to encourage pink-tinted thoughts of self-love.

Next is the Lapis Lazuli  ($8) which a royal stone that carries the vibration of one’s inner “king”/”queen”. It stimulates the third eye and psychic centers thus activating the higher mind and psychic abilities. Lapis is also a stone of self knowledge, reflection and communication of truth. The Lapis Lazuli meaning can be traced back to ancient Egypt where royalty believed in its power to stimulate openness to the spirit world and infinite possibilities of the imagination. Cleopatra used the crushed powder of Lapis Lazuli in her cosmetics to create the signature eye makeup design that symbolizes an Egyptian pharaoh.

Tiger’s Eye ($5)  isn’t the prettiest crystal but I really like the meaning behind it. This stone combines the energy of the sun with the energy of the earth creating a grounded yet high state of vibration. It is a stone protection and encourages the proper use of power with integrity. It is beneficial in empowering the self- discipline to accomplish one’s goals. It’s also a healing gemstone of vitality and physical action. It stimulates the first through third chakras to help you remain grounded, calm and centered, regardless of how crazy the situation is. Tiger Eye stone meaning includes energizing your body and chakras to strengthen your motivation and willpower. It combines the energy of the Earth with the energy of the Sun, bringing grounding, optimistic and happy energies. Tiger’s Eye stones help you to see the positive in any situation, making it especially helpful for anyone who suffers from feelings of depression.

Last, but not least I got an Aquamarine stone ($5). Living in NYC can make people irritable. Especially in the summer since it’s so freaking hot, and the city feels so gross and icky. I asked the sales guy what’s a good stone for peace and serenity. He suggested Aquamarine, which is helpful in all manner of cooling and calming. It triggers the throat chakra helping one to speak the truth in a straightforward manner with ease. While being calming in nature, this is not a sleep inducing stone. Feeling like you need to clear your head? When you take a bath, simply add a raw Aquamarine stone to your water and meditate on your inner mantra. The stone will create an essence of its healing properties as it becomes infused in water and supercharges your bath. Sit quietly with the healing crystal for twenty minutes and meditate on an intention you have for the stone. Because this crystal inspires a sense of peacefulness, inner strength, and courage, it has the power to absorb all your worries and daily troubles and transform those negative feelings into positive and healing thought patterns. Aquamarine is also a gem when it comes to enhancing clear, constructive communication because of its power to cleanse and energize the throat and heart chakras. During this therapeutic session, place the stone on the breastbone or the throat to encourage positive interactions with others. It works by helping you discover your true self, which leads to an enhanced sense of courage, self-love, and confidence.

Then I went to Rock Star (146 West 26th St). This store is more legit with more crystal options and bigger and definitely more expensive clusters. The crystals I bought here were more pricey and I definitely took my time buying them.

First up is Titanium Quartz ($20), also called Rainbow Flame Aura, or Flame Aura. Titanium Quartz is natural quartz that has been heat infused with rare metals in a vacuum chamber. The pure metals bond richly & deeply with the quartz; resulting in coloring that can neither be scraped nor scratched off. The crystal provides a full spectrum of colors, generating a rainbows that delight your mind as the colors shimmer and change as the crystals are moved in the light.

Titanium Quartz is very energizing on all levels, and can awaken all seven chakras, the energy centers of the body. It is said to increase zest and enjoyment of life, and to dispel sadness. The rich hues of colors in this quartz are alive, dancing energy, ready to enliven your life, and add sparkle and magic to your day.

Where to put it: These titanium Quartz brings you  water energy. Water energy is traditionally associated with the North area of a home or room. It is associated with the Career and Life Path area. Its flowing energy will assure a balance of energy as your life unfolds and flows.

I really really like the Clear Quartz Clusters ($16) I bought. The guy in the store pointed out that the cluster I bought was really cool because they formed different points. He said this stone has regrown so many times, it was probably damaged but the stone kept growing that’s why the points are in different directions. As corny as this sounds, but it made me love the crystal even more. It was a metaphor to me that you have to learn how to pivot when things get in your way. In the end, you will be okay and your story will be beautiful.

You may place other crystals carefully on clusters to charge them. Clear Quartz is known as the “master healer” and will amplify energy and thought, as well as the effect of other crystals.  It absorbs, stores, releases and regulates energy.  Clear Quartz draws off negative energy of all kinds, neutralizing background radiation, including electromagnetic smog or petrochemical emanations.  It balances and revitalizing the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual planes.  Cleanses and enhances the organs and subtle bodies and acts as a deep soul cleanser, connecting the physical dimension with the mind.  Clear Quartz enhances psychic abilities.  It aids concentration and unlocks memory.  Stimulates the immune system and brings the body into balance.  Clear Quartz harmonizes all the chakras and aligns the subtle bodies.

I also bought Blue Calcite ($5)  It is known as an excellent asset to aid the healing of pain, particularly in the bones and joints.Like other types of calcite, this variety helps to boost the flow of energy within your body, and will help to clear negative vibrations from its vicinity, so its good to keep close by.

Everyone responds to this loving stone. This is a stone that soothes frayed nerves, calms anxiety, and eases physical pain. It’s a strong stone for those recuperating from illness, as blue calcite clears negative energy and encourages rest and relaxation. Blue calcite clears negativity and amplifies energy within the throat chakra, removing communication blocks. It brings clarity and calm to all communications, filling our viewpoint with optimism. This gemstone even heals relationships.

My absolute favorite crystal I now own is my Angel Aura Quartz ($31). Also the most expensive one I have. I got the unpolished one because I felt like the polished ones were too commercialized. They look like the fake crystals sold at Urban Outfitters (ha!). I love how it’s iridescent.  It’s clear quartz bonded with platinum and silver, sometimes Gold or other trace metals; exhibits a light blue, rainbow and silvery iridescence. It carries a very loving and sweet energy, stimulating the spirit and elevating one’s mood. Meditating with this crystal allows one to enter a state of serenity and peace, purification and rest. It’s also an effective aura cleanser-When you use this crystal during meditation, you will fall into a state of peace and serenity and experience a higher and deeper level of meditation.

And that’s all for now… Do you have any crystals? Comment below as I’m always looking for recommendations.
