In high school my friends and I thought we were so cool ‘shopping’ at Sephora. And by shopping I mean trying on all the samples and buying 1 item that we saved up for. I had a friend who only wore Dior Mascara, and another who claimed her lips looked like Angelina Jolie’s after using DuWop’s Lip Venom and this friend who had a collection of Urban Decay eye shadow (this was pre-naked palette- around 2003-2007). So what did we buy? Eyeshadow, lip glosses and mascara. Go ahead, look at some girl you know who’s in high school I bet you her eye lashes look like she used a whole tube of mascara.
Skip to college, my sorority sisters and I would go to Sephora and this time we would buy face make up (ya know to erase the lack of sleep, bags under our eyes and conceal the zits we were getting from eating fried drunken food). We would try and find the best foundation for our skin- too lazy to put on makeup but you need to even out your skintone? Better stock up on Smashbox’s BB cream. Skin too sensitive? We heard Clinque’s CC cream did wonders. Just low maintenance, then Bare Minerals is calling your name (it even has a kit which comes with a brush!).
Well, now I’m in my late twenties. Now I actually have to take care of my skin. (Seriously I have friends who are already talking about wrinkles and botox! We’re 28!) So now I walk right by the high schoolers testing all the different shades on the latest Naked Palette (as I chuckle to myself because let’s be real you only use 3 shades out of that palette), past the college students hovering over NARS where they’re showing each other the correct way to conceal under eye bags (triangle method ladies!), and past the newly grads trying to contour at the Anastasia Beverly Hills counter (these girls are prob doing the duck face in the mirror too). And I keep walking to the back of the store… to skincare. Ya know, where Peter Thomas Roth, Kate Sommerville, Shiseido and Fresh are located. And honestly, these items are expensive AF. Perhaps that’s why no one is ever back there? Anyways… this post is about my favorite skincare items that I cannot live without.
La Mer’s The Hydrating Infusion ($120)
This high-potency serum treatment saturates the skin with a wave of hydration, smoothness and conditioning. A little bit goes a long way, so this bottle will last your for a while! Unfortunately it’s sold out at the moment, but you can get it here when it re-stocks.
